When Does "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" (1972) Take Place?

"Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" is a science fiction film written by Paul Dehn and released June 14th, 1972.

It takes place on the Planet of the Apes universe timeline in the year:

1993 AD

We know this because three different characters in three different scenes all refer to the events of the previous film, "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" (1971), as being "20 years" in the past and those events happen in 1973 AD. That would make this story's current year 1993 AD

1973 + 20 = 1993.

(HOWEVER, the movie's very first shot includes a place and time setting title card over the footage that reads "1991". This can be considered a production mistake because the "20 years" lines are referring to events in a film released in 1971 but that DOES NOT take place in 1971 AD. It is unlikely but possible for all three characters to be exaggerating, incorrect, or merely rounding-up, and it is, in fact, 1991 AD.)

Although it is a chronologically early film in the original "Planet of the Apes" pentalogy, it can be watched fourth after the third film, "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" (1971)
