When Does "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" (1972) Take Place?

"Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" is a science fiction film written by Paul Dehn and released on June 14th, 1972.

It takes place in the year:

1991 AD

We know this because the film's very first shot includes a place and time setting title card over the footage that reads "1991".

However, three different characters in three different scenes all loosely refer to the events of the previous film, "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" (1971), as being "20 years" in the past and that film happens in 1973 AD. That would make this film's current year 1993 AD

1973 + 20 = 1993.

The title card stands, as omniscient information supersedes all of this diegetic information. It is entirely possible for all three characters to be exaggerating, incorrect, or merely rounding-up.

Although it is a chronologically early film in the original "Planet of the Apes" pentalogy, it can be watched fourth after the third film, "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" (1971)
