When Does the Film "Wonder Woman" (2017) Take Place?
"Wonder Woman" is a historical fiction superhero film written by Allan Heinberg with Jason Fuchs, Geoff Johns, and Zack Snyder [adapting the Wonder Woman story in “All-Star Comics” #8 (1941) by William Moulton Marston as well as “Wonder Woman” #6 v2 (1987) by George PĂ©rez with Len Wein] and released May 31st, 2017.
We know this because the main action of the film happens during World War I at a point the Germany army is close to being defeated. Doctor Poison says, "Von Hindenburg has recommended the kaiser sign the armistice." roughly a third through the film. In the real world, Paul von Hindenburg, head of German High Command and military commander-in-chief, urged the German war cabinet to sign the armistice offered by the French leader of the Allied forces in November of 1918. Germany was given just 72 hours to sign it. Kaiser Wilhelm II had already abdicated his throne days earlier.
It takes place on the fictional DC Films timeline in the year:
1918 AD

Furthermore, Steve Trevor crashes into the water off Themyscira in a German Fokker E.III airplane, which was only produced and flown from 1915 AD to 1916 AD.
Steve also specially says very early in the film, "4 years, 27 countries, 25 million dead" and World War I began in 1914 AD.
1914 + 4 = 1918.
The end of the main action of the film is concurrent with the end of the war. World War I ended in 1918 AD.
It's important to note that the film opens and closes with a framing sequence referencing Bruce Wayne's existence in the present day of 2016 AD to 2017 AD. We know this because of details in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016), “Suicide Squad” (2016), and “Justice League” (2017).
Additionally, some early sequences depict Princess Diana's childhood and adolescence. However, her birth is only referred to as something that happened during or just after the Amazons were given the island of Themyscira "when time was new" so dating these scenes is impossible at this time.
It is the earliest chronological film in the DC Films timeline (the first chronological film to feature Wonder Woman) and can be watched either at its timeline point, before "Justice League" (2017) as an extended flashback, or entirely separately.
