When Does the MonsterVerse "Godzilla" (2014) Take Place?

"Godzilla" is an adventure horror (kaiju) film written by Max Borenstein with David Callaham, Frank Darabont, David S. Goyer, Drew Pearce, and Tony Gilroy that released May 16th, 2014. So when is "Godzilla" set?

It takes place on the fictional MonsterVerse Universe timeline in the year:

2014 AD

We know this because the main action of the story begins with a title card that reads “15 YEARS LATER” right after the end of the two-part prologue.

Furthermore, Joe Brody says “what happened 15 years ago” referring to the events of the 1999 AD prologue.

1999 + 15 = 2014.

The next film, "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" (2019), confirms this by opening with a prologue returning to the final events of this film and including a time and place setting title card that reads: "SAN FRANCISCO 2014" over its first shot.

The prologue includes a time and place setting title card reading “THE PHILIPPINES, 1999” very early on. This segues into a second part with no time setting title card to differentiate it through it's probably still 1999 AD

It is a chronologically midway film in the MonsterVerse Universe (a second chronological film to feature Godzilla) and can be watched at its timeline point.
