When Does "Cape May" (2019) Take Place?

"Cape May" is an erotic historical fiction novel written by Chip Cheek and released April 4th, 2019.

It takes place in the year:

1957 AD

We know this because right away the narrator tells us, while describing the setting: “this was the end of September” and then very soon after continues on to describe Henry and Effie, “in the spring they had graduated from high school: Thomas E. Cobb, Class of 1957.”

The entire story’s main action takes place in under one month so it’s contained in late September to the middle of October within the calendar year of 1957 AD.

Additionally, there is a sweeping epilogue that quickly covers events “in July of the next year”:

1957 + 1 = 1958.

And “in August of the following year”:

1958 + 1 = 1959.

Then, “in the next year”:

1959 + 1 = 1960.

It also stops “In the summer of 1971” (when the prose specifies, “She was thirty-two that year…”). Finally, the sad tale wraps up “In the year before Effie…” and “A few months after Effie…” referring to the moment “she’d been just shy of seventy-three.” So we can pinpoint this last year too.

73 - 32 = 41
and
1971 + 41 = 2012.

So, the epilogue blows through 1958 AD, 1959 AD, 1960 AD, 1971 AD, and ends in 2012 AD
