When Does "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" (2014) Take Place?

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is a science fiction film written by Rick Jaffa with Amanda Silver, Mark Bomback, and Scott Z. Burns [loosely remaking "Battle for the Planet of the Apes" (1973) by Paul Dehn with John William Corrington and Joyce Hooper Corrington] and released July 11th, 2014.

It takes place on an alternate timeline of the fictional Planet of the Apes universe in the year:

2026 AD

We know this because when using sign language to discuss the human race very early in the movie, Caesar says, "Wonder if they're really all gone." and Maurice replies, "10 winters now... last 2, no sign of them. They must be gone." This means it has been 2 years since this colony of intelligent chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans has seen a human and strongly implies that 10 years have passed since they left San Francisco behind in the climax of the previous film, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" (2011), which occurs in 2016.

2016 + 10 = 2026.

It is the chronologically second film in the "Planet of the Apes" reboot trilogy, it can be watched at its timeline point, before or after the first film adaptation, "Planet of the Apes" (1968), or before or after the second film adaptation, "Planet of the Apes" (2001)
