When Does "The Death of General Wolfe" (1770) Take Place?

"The Death of General Wolfe" is a historical fiction narrative-picture painted by Benjamin West and unveiled 1770.

It takes place in the year:

1759 AD

We know this because it depicts a moment during the famous and tragic real-world First Battle of Quebec a.k.a. The Battle of the Plains of Abraham (a pivotal battle of the Seven Years' War), which lasted less than an hour on September 13th, 1759 AD.

Specifically, it shows a moment near the end of the battle, in which the real-world General James Wolfe dies from gunshot wounds. In the background, more British soldiers are climbing over the top of the cliff on which the viewers look from. In reality, these soldiers arrived in the very early morning before the battle.

This New York Times article by Jason Farago examines its exact setting.
