When Does "Delirious" (2007) Take Place?

"Delirious" is a comedy film written by Tom DiCillo and released March 13th, 2007. So when is "Delirious" set?

It takes place in the year:

2006 AD

We know this because, early in the movie, Les Galantine says, "Gimme the Palm." to Toby Grace and then, right after, "The stylus just felt out 'cause you gave it to me upside down!" as they walk along a Manhattan, sidewalk. The stylus-system PalmPilot and similar PDA devices didn't fully disappear until 2011 AD but they were mostly replaced by the introduction of the iPhone in June of 2007 AD. So it must be before 2007 AD.

Just a few scenes earlier, Les says, "Help me spot people, you know, the money shots." then "Like: Lil' Kim, Chuck Sirloin, Diddy."

This refers to:
-The real-world celebrity musician Sean 'Puff Daddy' Combs, who changed his stage name to simply "Diddy" in August of 2005 AD and changed it back to "P. Diddy" in September of 2006 AD. He is casually referred to by many names in the real world but is specifically referred to as "Diddy" twice by paparazzi characters in the story.

-And the real-world celebrity rapper Kimberly 'Lil' Kim' Jones, who served a one-year federal prison sentence (commuted to 10 months) from September 19th, 2005 AD to July 3rd, 2006 AD. Though casual mentions of her celebrity certainly still happened, she was, obviously, absent from the promotion and party scene during that time.

-Along with the celebrity actor Chuck Sirloin, who only exists within this fictional world (diegesis).

Importantly, cold nighttime weather plays a role in the first meeting between Toby and Les, so the opening of the narrative must take place sometime between a late September and an early April.

The only cold weather time on the eastern coast of North America during the time Puff Daddy was professionally called "Diddy" that Lil' Kim could have been at a New York City celebrity party is late September of 2006 AD.

It has also been reported that DiCillo based the story partially on the professional life of real-world paparazzi Steve Sands.

There is a director's cut of the film released October 13th, 2020. The changes primarily affect the ending and do not change the time setting of the film.
