When Does "Red Dead Revolver" (2004) Take Place?

"Red Dead Revolver" is a western video game written by Josh Needleman-Carlton and released on May 3rd, 2004.

It takes place on the Red Dead timeline in the year:

1888 AD

We know this because a tombstone can be seen in-game for the real-world criminal Charles 'Black Bart' Boles. The location (and even the existence) of this tombstone is disputed in the real-world but the poetry-writing outlaw was last seen alive on February 28th, 1888 AD so a grave marker could only exist for him in late 1888 AD at the soonest.

Additionally, there is a prologue that is identified by the use of a brand-new 37-star United States of America flag, which would only be produced while there were 37 states. This was only true between March 1st, 1867 AD (when Nebraska became the 37th American state) and August 1st, 1876 AD (when Colorado became the 38th American state). The prologue must take place in late 1876 AD at the earliest.

Most importantly, during the main action of the narrative, Sheriff Bartlett says, "it all happened about 12 years ago" when referring to events of the prologue so we know the approximate gap of years.

1888 - 12 = 1876.
