When Does "The Girls at 17 Swann Street" (2019) Take Place?

"The Girls at 17 Swann Street" is a historical fiction novel written by Yara Zgheib and released February 5th, 2019.

It takes place in the year:

2016 AD

We know this because over the course of the novel the treader is presented with Anna Roux's medical evaluations and they are clearly dated at the top.

Chapter 2 begins "Clinical Intake and Assessment Form" followed by "Friday—May 20, 2016". Chapter 79 starts “Treatment Plan Update—June 13, 2016”.

At the end of the story, Chapter 90 opens with the words: “Monday morning. Six Mondays ago, my life was…” referring to Anna’s time at 17 Swann Street so the main action of the story takes place over 6 weeks from May to June of 2016 AD.

Additionally, there's flashbacks to happier days for Anna and Matthias. These are only referred to as "three years ago" so these take place in 2013 AD

And, finally, there’s an epilogue in Chapter 91 that includes the words “It is nearly Christmas and snowing outside” as well as “Six months since I last slept alone” referring to the end of the main action so we know it’s December of 2016 AD.
