When Does the TV Show "The Penguin" (2024) Take Place?
"The Penguin" is a crime television show showrun by Lauren LeFranc [adapting "Penguin: Pain and Prejudice" #1-#2 (2011) by Gregg Hurwitz as well as "Batman: Dark Victory" #6 (2000) by Jeph Loeb] and released September 19th, 2024.
We know this because, at the end of episode 2 "Inside Man", a memorial plaque is seen in the Falcone family crypt that reads "DECEMBER 29, 1983 ~ NOVEMBER 13, 2022" under the name of a character who dies in episode 1 "After Hours". So, at least the first three episodes take place in November of 2022 AD.
It takes place on an alternate timeline of the fictional DC Films Universe in the year:
2022 AD

Episode 4 "Cent'Anni" jumps to a 2012 AD flashback for the first half of its runtime. This flashback shows the audience events that characters refer to during the main action as being "10 years ago" several times.
2022 - 10 = 2012.
During this extended flashback, "6 months" pass, putting us in mid-2013 AD.
11.2012 + 6 months = 5.2013.
Finally, episode 7 “Top Hat” contains three flashbacks to the childhood of Oswald “Oz” “The Penguin” Cobb and the second of these flashbacks includes a reference to the film “Beetlejuice” (1988) being currently in theaters and clearly takes place on the same day as the first flashback. Since this movie released to theaters on March 30th, 1988, we can conclude these first two flashbacks take place in 1988 AD. The third is technically unplaceable but most likely takes place only a matter of weeks later and thus is probably also in 1988 AD.
It is a chronologically early TV show in the DC Films multiverse (an early show to feature Oswald Cobb/The Penguin).
