When Does "Ballerina" (2025) Take Place?
"From the World of John Wick: Ballerina" is a crime film written by Shay Hatten with Emerald Fennell that released June 6th, 2025. So when is "Ballerina" set?
It takes place on the fictional John Wick timeline in the year:
We know this because an early scene is clearly a different perspective on scenes from "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" (2019), which take place in 2014 AD. These scenes are soon followed by a title card superimposed over the footage that tells us we're jumping "2 months later" for the remainder of the story but presumably it's still within the 2014 AD calendar year.

Additionally, there's an extended two-part prologue:
-The first part has a short frame narrative and main action of its own. The frame narrative action is strongly implied to be merely days or weeks before the second part and therefore almost certainly within the 2002 AD calendar year. Based on the blood on Eve Macarro's face and Winston Scott's line that starts "At a time of loss"... and the setting in a police station, the violent main action of this prologue happens just hours before the frame.
-The second part ends with a title card reading: "Twelve Years Later" over the footage before the scenes that mirror "John Wick: Chapter 3" (2019) so it's probably 2002 AD at this point.
2014 - 12 = 2002.
It is the chronologically eighth story in the John Wick universe (the fourth chronological film to feature John Wick) and can be watched at its timeline point.
