When Does the Film "Madame Web" (2024) Take Place?

"Madame Web" is an urban-fantasy film written by Matt Sazama with Kerem Sanga, Burk Sharpless, Claire Parker, and S. J. Clarkson [adapting "Spider-Woman" #1 v3 (1999) by John Byrne as well as "The Amazing Spider-Man" #474 (2001) by J. Michael Straczynski] that released February 14th, 2024.

It takes place on an alternate timeline of the fictional Marvel Cinematic Universe in the year:

2003 AD

We know this because at around three-quarters through the movie, an advertisement is visible on a large brick wall for BeyoncĂ©'s album "Dangerously in Love" which released May 14th, 2003 AD. So it’s almost certainly summer of 2003 AD.

Furthermore, at the start of the main action of the story, the footage includes a time setting title card that reads "2003" declaring it 2003 AD for the large majority of the film.

Additionally, the narrative’s opening scenes include the birth of a character whose birth certificate is clearly seen early in the main action. In cursive is written "Mayo 26, 1973" next to the pre-typed "Fecha de Nacimiento" (Spanish for ‘Date of Birth’) on the document. So the prologue takes place in May of 1973 AD

Furthermore, this prologue includes its own time setting title card reading "1973".

This TIME magazine article explains how the film attempts to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a separate project simultaneously.

It is a chronologically early film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and can be watched either at its timeline point or entirely separately.
