When Does the Film "Madame Web" (2024) Take Place?

"Madame Web" is an urban-fantasy film written by Matt Sazama with Kerem Sanga, Burk Sharpless, Claire Parker, and S. J. Clarkson [adapting "Spider-Woman" #1 v3 (1999) by John Byrne as well as "The Amazing Spider-Man" #474 (2001) by J. Michael Straczynski] and released February 14th, 2024.

It takes place on an alternate timeline of the fictional Marvel Cinematic Universe in the year:

2003 AD

At the start of the main action of the film, the footage includes a time setting title card declaring it 2003 AD for the large majority of the film.

Furthermore, an advertisement is visible on a large brick wall, at around three-quarters through the film, for BeyoncĂ©'s album "Dangerously in Love" which released May 14th, 2003 AD.

Additionally, the film's prologue includes a time setting title card labeling it as taking place in 1973 AD. Though, there appears to be no way to confirm this date with context.

This "TIME" magazine article explains how the movie attempts to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a separate project simultaneously.

It is a chronologically early film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and can be watched either at its timeline point or entirely separately.
