When Does the Short Film "Agent Carter" (2013) Take Place?

"Agent Carter" is a spy historical fiction short film written by Eric Pearson [loosely adapting "Tales of Suspense" #77 (1966) by Stan Lee] and first released September 3rd, 2013.

It takes place on the fictional Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline in the year:

1946 AD

We know this because it opens by repeating one of the final scenes of "Captain America: The First Avenger" (2011) and then immediately shows a time setting title card over the first original footage that reads, "One Year Later". The final scenes of the first theatrically-released Captain America film take place in 1945 AD, so we must be in 1946 AD.

1945 + 1 = 1946.

Furthermore, when Peggy Carter is asked for "the latest transmissions" and she opens her desk drawer, the document she grabs has "03:14:1946" handwritten at the top next to the word "DATE".

It is the earliest chronological short film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Technically, it takes place around the same time as season one of the "Agent Carter" (2015) TV show that was developed based on its success. Retroactively, events in the short film must happen after the events of both seasons of the TV series. It can be watched at its timeline point, [along with "Captain America: The First Avenger" (2011) with or without the "Agent Carter" (2015) television show season one and season two] between "Thor" (2011) and "The Avengers" (2012) as part of an extended flashback or as part of an extended flashback just before “Captain America: Civil War” (2016)
