When Does the TV Show "Jessica Jones" Season Two (2018) Take Place?

"Jessica Jones" season two is a television series showran by Melissa Rosenberg [loosely adapting "Spider-Woman" #30 v1 (1980) by Michael Fleisher as well as "Avengers" #144 v1 (1975) by Steve Englehart] that premiered March 8th, 2018. So when is "Jessica Jones" season 2 set? 

It takes place on the fictional Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline in the year: 

2017 AD 

We know this because during season two episode nine "AKA Shark in the Bathtub, Monster in the Bed" Patricia "Trish" "Patsy" Walker catches some of a news stream on her MacBook Pro laptop (a product introduced to the public in February of 2006 AD) featuring her ex-boyfriend, television news reporter Griffin Sinclair, who tells his audience, "I'm reporting from the Aleppo citadel war-zone where Syrian forces have launched a full-scale offensive"... Even the chyron below Sinclair on the screen reads: "ALEPPO UNDER SIEGE: US BACKED MILITIA TAKING FIRE". The real-world city of Aleppo in Syria has tragically undergone numerous military conflicts since its founding but only two happened after the introduction of the MacBook Pro: the Siege of Aleppo that lasted from July of 2012 AD to December of 2016 AD and the Battle of Aleppo that lasted from November of 2024 AD to December of 2024 AD. So it must occur after July of 2012 AD but before December of 2024 AD. 

More specifically, in season two episode three "AKA Sole Survivor" Jessica Jones says, "17 years ago, an injured orphan girl came through and you thought, 'Perfect candidate to torture'." when referring to the accident of her origin story and season one episode twelve "AKA Take a Bloody Number" establishes this accident as happening sometime just before April of 2000 AD. So it must be around April of 2017 AD. 

4.2,000 + 17 = 4.2,017. 

The Siege of Aleppo officially ended in late December of 2016 AD HOWEVER a tiny portion of the suburbs of Aleppo were still held by rebel forces until February of 2020 AD. 

Additionally, season two episode seven "AKA I Want Your Cray Cray" opens with a point-of-view flashback to a character narrowly surviving the fateful accident from Jessica's Jones' childhood. So the first flashback must be in early 2000 AD. 

Then, there's a very vague flashback with this survivor that's unplaceable other than taking place sometime between the previous flashback in 2000 AD and the next one in 2005 AD. 

Later, we see another flashback with the same survivor asking, "How long have I been here?" Dr. Karl Malus responds, "5 years." So the third flashback must be some time in (potentially April of) 2005 AD. 

4.2,000 + 5 = 4.2,005. 

There's then a long flashback in the same episode to a younger college-age Trish "Patsy" Walker. The time is never mentioned but this flashback intersects with a plot that seems likely to follow the second flashback, so it's 2005 AD for the remainder of the episode until a short epilogue brings us back to 'the present' of 2017 AD. 

(Early in season two episode eight "AKA Ain't We Got Fun" Jessica says to Dr. Malus, "You've lived like this for 12 years?" when referring to his life since sometime around the later flashback scenes in season two episode seven "AKA I Want Your Cray Cray". This seems to confirm for us that the majority of episode seven is in 2005 AD.

Season two episode eleven "AKA Three Lives and Counting" includes a flashback that is unplaceable other than taking place sometime after the 2005 AD scenes in episode 7 and before the main action of the season in 2017 AD.
