When Does the Film "Kraven the Hunter" (2024) Take Place?

"Kraven the Hunter" is a superhero film written by Richard Wenk with Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, Donny Cates, Chris Bremner, J.C. Chandor, Adamma Ebo, Adanne Ebo, Zak Olkewicz, and Oren Uziel [loosely adapting “The Sensational Spider-Man '96" annual (1996) by J.M. DeMatteis as well as “Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man” #65 (1982) by Bill Mantlo] and released December 11th, 2024.

It takes place on an alternate timeline of the fictional Marvel Cinematic Universe roughly in the years:

2010s AD

We know this because at his London, England night club, Dmitri Smerdyakov/The Chameleon sings the song "Sign of the Times" by Jeff Bhasker, Mitch Rowland, Ryan Nasci, Alex Salibian with Harry Styles. The song was released on April 7th, 2017 AD. So the main action of the narrative must be during or after April of 2017 AD.

A complete lack of mentions of the famous and tragic 2020 worldwide COVID-19 pandemic strongly encourages a February of 2020 AD cutoff.

Additionally, there is a prologue at the start of the movie that takes place just before the rest of the main action but it is followed immediately by an extended flashback that starts with a time setting title card reading, "16 YEARS EARLIER".

2017 - 16 = 2001.

Finally, the end of the story includes an epilogue that begins with a time setting title card that reads, “ONE YEAR LATER”.

2017 + 1 = 2018.
