When Does "Terminator: Dark Fate" (2019) Take Place?
"Terminator: Dark Fate" (released to Japanese-speaking audiences as "Terminator: New Fate") is a science fiction film written by David Goyer with David Ellison, Tim Miller, Charles H. Eglee, Josh Friedman, James Cameron, Justin Rhodes, and Billy Ray that released October 23rd, 2019. So when is "Dark Fate" set?
It takes place in the year:
We know this because .

2020 AD
We know this because .
Furthermore, at the end of the 1998 AD prologue there is a relative time and place setting title card superimposed over the footage telling us it's now "MEXICO CITY 22 YEARS LATER".
1998 + 22 = 2020.
It is the sixth chronological film in the Terminator universe and can be watched at its timeline point or after "Terminator Genisys" (2015) in a release order watch.
Additionally, the movie opens with a mutli-part prologue:
-The first repeats scenes from "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (1991), which takes place in 1995 AD, and essentially functions as a flashback. So this first part is certainly in 1995 AD.
-The second is more of an unplaceable flashforward and depicts a scenario that the previous films, "The Terminator" (1984) and "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (1991), explicitly stated will come to pass by 2029 AD. So this part of the prologue could be in or around 2029 AD. Though when Sarah Connor asks Grace, "When are you from?", Grace replies, "2042." so it’s equally plausible this short prologue is set in or around 2042 AD.
-The third part of the prologue opens with it’s own time and place setting title card reading: "LIVINGSTON, GUATEMALA 1998". So this is probably 1998 AD.
Finally, Grace experiences a flashback dream sequence showing us her fairly recent past in a possible future (relative to the other characters). Since, by her own words, she is "from" "2042", this is most likely 2042 AD or just soon before that.
