When Does "The Kents" #8 (1998) Take Place?

"The Kents" #8 "Brother Versus Brother" Part 4 is a western historical fiction comic-book written by John Ostrander that released January 7th, 1998. So when is "The Kents" #8 set?

It takes place on the fictional DC Comics Universe timeline in the year:

1864 AD - 1865 AD

We know this because the real-world William Clarke Quantrill (1837-1865) appears for a final time and he was killed on ? so it must begin before or during June of 1865 AD.

More specifically, right away in the issue’s first textbox Jonathan "Pa" Kent narrates “I’ve managed to put together this packet of journals and letters of our ancestors from that trunk”… and then "It’s the fall of 1864." So the issue seems to begin in fall of 1864 AD.

Specifically, the first textbox presenting one of these letter begins: “October 2, 1864--As many others, I’m sick of this  war.” So at least by this point we appear to be in October of 1864 AD.

Later, the characters learn of the famous and tragic assassination of Abraham Lincoln, which happened on . Quantrill says, "Here’s to the death of Abe Lincoln, hoping that his bones may serve in Hell as a gridiron to fry Yankees on!" So it is most likely June of 1865 AD at this point.

Additionally, the issue includes a prologue with Jonathan "Pa" Kent writing to Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman set in ‘the present’ of the DC Universe. This is unplaceable at this time.

Finally, a flashback is included in which Jonah Hex appears already featuring his famous scars "" So it must be after ? AD during this flashback.

It is a chronologically early comic in the DC Comics Universe multiverse timeline and can be read at its timeline point after the previous issue, "The Kents" #7 (1997)
