When Does "Body Heat" (1981) Take Place?

"Body Heat" is a crime film written by Lawrence Kasdan that released August 28th, 1981. So when is "Body Heat" set?

It takes place in the year:

1980 AD

We know this because during the early 1981 AD part of the two-part epilogue, Ned Racine has grown a full beard around the mustache he wears from the beginning to the end of the main action. Though it is unclear how much time has passed, the facial hair growth from clean-shaven cheeks to full beard tells us it has been at least a month so it must be during or before December of 1980 AD.

1.1981 - ? months = ?.1980.

More specifically, the main action clearly takes place during a summer heatwave so it's most likely summer of 1980 AD.

Additionally, the end of the story is an epilogue in which Racine opens a package that has been sent to him in Florida from Illinois postmarked for "1981  JAN 9" and it takes only weeks to a full month for something to travel that distance. So the epilogue is in late January or early February of 1981 AD
