When Does "Peggy Sue Got Married" (1986) Take Place?

"Peggy Sue Got Married" is a comedy fantasy film written by Jerry Leichtling with Arlene Sarner that released October 10th, 1986. So when is "Peggy Sue Got Married" set?

It takes place in the year:

1960 AD

We know this because when Peggy Sue Bodell wakes up in her teenage body (as Peggy Sue Kelcher) a huge banner is immediately visible in the high school gym reading "SUPPORT THE BUCHANAN HIGH SCHOOL BLOOD DRIVE" and it includes "SPRING 1960" in the corner. So it’s spring of 1960 AD.

Additionally, the story opens and closes with a frame story. A pennant banner behind Peggy and her daughter Beth at the reunion party itself clearly reads: "BUCHANAN  HIGH SCHOOL" and "25 YEAR Reunion" under it. During the 1960 AD main action, Michael Fitzsimmons says, "5 more weeks of school. 10 minutes past graduation, I’m gone!" So it is the characters’ graduation year and it must therefore be 1985 AD during the frame narrative beginning and ending.

1960 + 25 = 1985.

It was adapted as a stage-musical in 2001.
