When Does "mona lisa smile" (2003) Take Place?

"mona lisa smile" is a historical fiction film written by Lawrence Konner with Mark Rosenthal that released December 19th, 2003. So when is "mona lisa smile" set?

It takes place in the years:

1953 AD - 1954 AD

We know this because Elizabeth "Betty" Warren's article appears in an issue of  "Wellesley College News" and when the audience gets a close up of it, it's clearly dated for "SEPT 19, 1953".

Furthermore, a very early shot includes a time setting title card "FALL 1953".

More specifically, about one tenth into the story Betty Warren says, "Do you realize November 2nd is 3 weeks from now?" so it should be October of 1953 AD and the college newspaper issue's date means at least those scenes around its publication take place in September of 1953 AD (despite coming later and not appearing to be flashbacks).

Halfway through the narrative, there are many Christmas decorations around campus and Nancy Abbey says, "I'll be back... on the 2nd. See you next year. Haha, 1954!" So presumably it is December of 1953 AD.

Indeed, later, during a musical event for teachers and students a huge banner is obscured but "SPRING FLING 1" & "54" is clearly visible. So it is almost certainly spring of 1954 AD.
