When Does the Film "Sonic the Hedgehog" (2020) Take Place?

"Sonic the Hedgehog" is a comedy science fiction film written by Patrick Casey with Josh Miller and Oren Uziel [loosely adapting "Sonic the Hedgehog" (1991) by Yuji Naka] that released February 12th, 2020. So when is "Sonic the Hedgehog" set?

It takes place in the year:

2023 AD

We know this because very early in the main action Thomas Michael "Tom" Wachowski jokes, "No, Wade. I'm actually on a yacht. In Barbados. With Rihanna." The real-world singer/songwriter Robyn Rihanna Fenty became a global superstar in 2008 AD. So it must be during or after 2008 AD.

More specifically, in the third film, "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" (2024), Shadow the Hedgehog says, "2024? I've been trapped for 50 years?!" and the characters go camping so that story's main action must take place in mid-2024 AD plus Tom says, "After the action and adventure of the last few years"... strongly implying more than one but less than 10 years have passed since this story. Also, in the opening of the second film, "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" (2022), which takes place in YEAR AD, Doctor Ivo Gerald Robotnik/Doctor Eggman narrates out loud for himself "Day 243?" so it has been 243 days since the climax of this movie. That makes it early 2023 AD.

243 days = 8 months
and
?.2,023 - 8 months = ?.2,023.

Additionally, there is a prologue that ends with a time and place setting subtitle reading: "GREEN HILLS, MONTANA  TEN YEARS LATER". So the prologue is almost certainly set in 2013 AD

2,023 - 10 = 2,013.

It was adapted to prose in early 2020.
