When Does "The Bombing of Pan Am 103" (2025) Take Place?

"The Bombing of Pan Am 103" is a historical fiction television series showran by Jonathan Lee that premiered May 18th, 2025. So when is "The Bombing of Pan Am 103" set?

It takes place in the years:

1988 AD - 1991 AD

We know this because "Episode 1" depicts the real-world tragic explosion of airline Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, and the hours leading up to it, which occurred on December 21st, 1988 AD. So it begins in December of 1988 AD.

Later, the second through fifth episodes show us the real-world investigation into the perpetrators who placed a bomb on the plane.

Furthermore, during the first episode there is a time setting subtitle reading "LONDON HEATHROW AIRPORT  21st DECEMBER 1988" and during the fifth episode "Episode 5" one scene includes a time setting subtitle that reads "21st JULY 1991" near the end.

Additionally, the last episode includes a quick montage of real-world television news clips with title cards identifying them as being from 1992 AD and 1998 AD.

Finally, "Episode 6" depicts the real-world trial of the bombers in the Netherlands, which began on May 3rd, 200 AD. Early on in the episode multiple characters make reference to "11 years since" and then later a news reporter specifically says, "12 years" so it functions as an epilogue and takes place in 1999 AD and 2000 AD. The final scenes depict the conclusion of the trial, which was on January 31st, 2001 AD. So this is January of 2001 AD.

1,988 + 11 = 1,999
and
1,988 + 12 = 2,000.
