When Does "Strange Fruit" (2015) Take Place?
"STRANGE FRUIT" is a historical fiction superhero comic-book written by Mark Waid with J.G. Jones that premiered July 8th, 2015. So when is "Strange Fruit" set?
It takes place in the year:
We know this because many citizens of Chatterlee are members of the real-world white supremacist hate group the Ku Klux Klan, seen wearing pointed hoods and robes ("These here hoods aren't terrible practical in a downpour, are they?")— a hallmark of the second and third version of the group founded in 1915 AD. So it must be during or after 1915 AD.
1927 AD

More specifically, the main action depicts the real-world Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. The epilogue depicting the flood covered by Movietone News, a real-world precursor to television news that ran in movie theaters from December 1927 AD to 1963 AD makes it extremely unlikely to be any other flood. The flooding lasted from mid 1926 AD to August of 1927 AD. Levees broke along the Mississippi River (as mentioned several times in the story: "We just heard tell the levee up in Elizabeth burst." and "...the levee's burst!") from March of 1927 AD to May of 1927 AD. So it's March of 1927, April of 1927 AD, or May of 1927 AD during the main action.
Furthermore, the very first panel on page one of the first issue includes time and place setting free-floating text reading: "Chatterlee, mississippi april 1927". So it is probably April of 1927 AD.
Additionally, the fourth and final issue has a short epilogue of the begins with massive white on black free-floating text that reads "SIX WEEKS LATER". Based on the free-floating text, that would make it May of 1927 AD during the epilogue.
HOWEVER, the epilogue is a sequential art presentation of a faux-found-footage clip from "Movietone News," which only existed from December 1927 AD to 1963 AD. So the epilogue must take place during or after December of 1927 AD when people could first see it in-universe.
More specifically, during the epilogue the town is visited by "Secretary of Commerce and rumored Presidential hopeful Herbert Hoover." and the real-world politician Herbert Hoover (1874-1964) served as the United States of American Secretary of Commerce from March 5th, 1921 AD to August 21st, 1928 AD. So it must be before or during August of 1928 AD when the MovieTone News segment epilogue is playing.
6 months later is more realistic than 6 weeks and the epilogue probably takes place in December of 1927 AD. It's possible Hoover visited in May and the footage was screened in December.
