When Does "Shanghai Noon" (2000) Take Place?
"Shanghai Noon" is a historical fiction comedy film written by Alfred Gough with Miles Millar that released May 26th, 2000. So when is "Shanghai Noon" set?
It takes place in the year:
We know this because early in the story outlaw Wallace sarcastically asks, "What is this, the orient express?" and the real-world train service route called The Orient Express began running on June 5th, 1883 AD. So it must be during or after June of 1883 AD.

More specifically, when outlaw Roy O'Bannon says, "I've heard all about the Emperor. Must be one hell of a man.", Chon Wang replies, "He's only twelve." and the real-world Emperor of China GuangXu was born on August 14th, 1871 AD (his reign began on February 25th, 1875 AD).
1,871 + 12 = 1,883.
HOWEVER, very early on there is a time and place setting subtitle reading: "Forbidden City, China 1881". That would make it 1881 AD though this is contradicted by multiple aforementioned points above.
