When Does the TV Show "Brave New World" (2020) Take Place?

"Brave New World" is a science fiction television show showran by David Wiener [adapting "Brave New World" (1932) by Aldous Huxley] that released July 15th, 2020. So when is "Brave New World" set?

It takes place roughly in the year:

~2258 AD

We know this because, although a specific year is not mentioned in the show, the work it's an adaptation of offers a specific option.

In episode 2 "Want and Consequence", the tour guide Gamma Gracie says, "According to Savage lore, their culture dates back almost 200 years. When the inception of INDRA allowed the civilized people of the world to form the World State, the Savages chose to reject that destiny, which is why they continue in their primitive existence to this day."

The show never makes much more mention of the moment the World State was formed but the original novel vaguely does. At one point in the book, the Controller says, "The Nine Years’ War began in A.F. 141." and a little later, "The Nine Years’ War, the Great Economic Collapse. There was a choice between World Control and destruction." Presumably, the Nine Years' War actually lasted 9 years and ended in 150 AF.

141 + 9 = 150.

Soon after he clears up the calendar for us: "The introduction of Our Ford's first T-Model ..." then immediately "Chosen as the opening date of the new era." Scholars deduced from this that the "A.F." in the characters' calendar stands for AFTER FORD, i.e. after Henry Ford, so the calendar of "the new era" counts from the introduction of the Ford Model T car on October 1st, 1908 AD. Therefore, the World State was formed in 2058 AD on the Gregorian calendar in the original novel.

1908 + 150 = 2058.

Assuming a close adaptation, this is the best year we can ascertain for the formation of the World State in the TV show. "almost 200 years" later brings us to around 2258 AD.

2058 + ~200 = ~2258.
