When Does "Revolutionary Road" (1961) Take Place?

"Revolutionary Road" is a historical fiction novel written by Richard Yates that released December 31st, 1961.

It takes place in the year:

1955 AD

We know this because early in the main action the unnamed barrator declares, "The year was 1955 and the place was a part of western Connecticut"...

More specifically, just before this sentence the narrator says, ..."they found they could roll down the windows of their cars and let the air in, with its health-giving smells of loam and young flowers. It was the first time many of the Laurel Players had allowed themselves to acknowledge the coming of spring." So it is early spring of 1955 AD and since .

Additionally, there is a flashback that begins with the phrase "This was the way they had first come, two years ago"... so presumably it must be 1953 AD at this time.

1,955 - 2 = 1,953.

It was adapted to film in 2008
