When Does "The Golden House" (2017) Take Place?

"The Golden House" is a GENRE novel written by Salman Rushdie that released September 5th, 2017. So when is "The Golden House" set?

Additionally, the story begins with a prologue? and the first sentence of the book is "On the day of the new president's inauguration, when we worried that he might be murdered as he walked hand in hand with his exceptional wife among the cheering crowds, and when so many of us were close to economic ruin in the aftermath of the bursting of the mortgage bubble"... followed soon by "The next eight years, the years of the forty-fourth president"... . 

Furthermore, chapter two includes the unnamed narrator's more directly states, "But on that cold January day in 2009 when the enigmatic septuagenarian we came to know as Nero Julius Golden arrived"... So it is certainly January of 2009 AD. 

Later, Petya Golden passes time by "rushing himself through a crash course in the history and development of video games"... continuing to ..."the more sophisticated subjectivities of Assassin's Creed and Red Dead Redemption"... The video game "Red Dead Redemption" (2010) released on May 18th, 2010 AD in the real world so it must be during or after May of 2010 AD at this point. 

Near the end, we're told, "For eight years we persuaded ourselves that the progressive, tolerant, adult America embodied by the president was"... and this implies . 

2,009 + 8 = 2,017. 

Additionally, chapter three contains a flashback to "their untold story" and eventually we are specifically told, "Then, on November 23, 2008"...
